All of Coos and Grafton Counties are the responsibility of Fortier and Oscar and that is a huge area. They are assigned to Troop F of the New Hampshire State Police. Because of the large area of responsibility Oscar rides with Fortier 90 per cent of the time. They have a station wagon cruiser which is packed with food, water and the necessary tracking gear for man and dog. ATTACK--Ben responds to eminent danger to his partner as he hurls himself out of Vermont State Trooper Howard Atherton's vehicle and attacks would-be villain. J J # TRAINED TO ATTACK--The above series of photos show Ben in active pursuit and attack. State Police Corporal Robert Harradon from the East Side Cluster is the area officer in charge, and in the above sequence is the villain. He wears a protective sleeve while training with Ben. On command, Trooper Atherton calls Ben off the attack. Fortier has been with the grate four and a half years. Prior to that he was the Chief of the Woodsville Police Department. He and his wife Sandy have four girls. Oscar has his own kennel next to the family home. tie is very much a part of the family.
